Mike Lewis

Michael Lewis is the host of the Fanalytics Podcast and Professor of Marketing at Emory University. The Fanalytics Podcast presents deep dives into the world of sports marketing and sports analytics. Professor Lewis has partnered with multiple professional sports franchises on marketing and player analytics projects.

 

Professor Lewis is known for his analyses of professional and collegiate fan bases and brands. Other topics of interest include competitive balance (league design), player drafting analytics, star power effects, and mascots.   


Beyond the world of sports, Professor Lewis is the Faculty Director for the Marketing Analytics Center at the Goizueta School of Business. He has a research program focused on consumer loyalty, customer lifetime value, dynamic pricing, and brand equity.

 

His research has appeared in academic journals such as the Journal of Marketing Research, Management Science, Marketing Science, Journal of Marketing and the Journal of Retailing. He has also published in popular press outlets ranging from the New York Times to Deadspin.com.

Doug Battle

Doug Battle is the Communications Specialist for the Marketing Analytics Center at Emory University's Goizueta Business School. He is a 2017 graduate of the University of Georgia, where he majored in Entertainment & Media Studies at the Grady College of Journalism and minored in Consumer Economics. Since graduating, Doug has coordinated and conducted interviews with multiple college football Hall of Famers and over 30 NFL players on The Savage Pads Podcast while working in digital marketing and commodity trading concurrently. He now produces the Fanalytics With Mike Lewis podcast and contributes to the Fanalytics blog.

Thomas more smith

Prof. Thomas More Smith holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is considered an expert in the areas of labor economics, pricing, sports economics and finance, the economics of the entertainment industry, the economics of the health care industry and film finance. He is an Associate Professor in the Practice of Finance at the Goizueta Business School at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. He regularly appears as an expert on national television and radio programming (CNN, NPR, Huffington Post) and is frequently quoted in popular press regarding trends in unemployment, inflation, trade and more.

The Fanalytics Project comes to you from the Marketing Analytics Center of Emory University in Atlanta. Professor Mike Lewis presents quick takes and deep dives into the worlds of sports analytics and fandom. Sometimes we even get into non-sports examples of fandom. We take a holistic approach and consider topics ranging from player performance analytics to fan loyalty. What differentiates Fanalytics is that we combine rigorous analytics and an interdisciplinary perspective (statistics, economics, psychological and marketing) to explain the worlds of sports and entertainment fandom.  

Podcast guests have included front office professionals, professors, sports business executives, and sports reporters.

Professor Lewis is excited to speak on a wide range of sports marketing and player performance topics including:
