MLB Labor Strife?

Today’s episode focuses on MLB and the 2020 season. MLB’s plans for a version of the 2020 season “seem” to be in flux due in part to some contentious negotiations between owners and players. These negotiations highlight a critical but often invisible element of sports analysis - the collective bargaining agreement or CBA.

CBAs define the rules of each professional league. These rules related to amateur drafts, free agency, revenue sharing, and other matters dictate how teams construct rosters and compete with one another. MLB's discussions about the 2020 season may foreshadow how negotiations for the next CBA may play out.
